Marking the topping off ceremony with a focus on sustainable design and community impact
Yesterday, we celebrated the Richtfest for the Sophienschule project in Barmbek, Hamburg, marking a significant milestone in its development. This traditional German ceremony, which celebrates the topping-off of a building, brought together around 250 guests, including local authorities, representatives from the Erzbistum Hamburg, and Generalvikar Pater Sascha-Philipp Geißler, who blessed the structure. The event highlighted the strong ties between the school, church, and local community.
Sustainable Design
The Sophienschule project is part of the larger Sophien-Campus, which will serve 360 students in a modern primary school and kindergarten. Designed with sustainability at its core, the school’s hybrid wood construction not only reduces its environmental impact but also creates a warm, healthy space for learning. By integrating wood with modern materials and efficient energy systems, we are proud to deliver a building that reflects our commitment to eco-friendly design.
Standout Features
With construction now well underway, the structure is already showcasing some of its standout features, including a central courtyard that connects all the elements of the campus and provides ample outdoor learning opportunities. The double-height sports hall, featuring exposed wood beams, will be the active heart of the school, hosting a diverse range of activities. Large windows offer views into this dynamic space from the ground floor, reinforcing its role as a lively and engaging center for students.
Looking Ahead
As we look ahead to the completion of Sophienschule in 2025, the success of the Richtfest brings us closer to our vision of creating a sustainable, inclusive, and community-centered campus. This celebration not only marks a construction milestone but also embodies the shared efforts and values that will shape the future of the Sophien-Campus.
